KeebScout is a free mechanical keyboard finder and spec database that helps you choose the right keyboard and switches with normalized specs, honest comparisons, and no sponsored rankings.

Who runs KeebScout

KeebScout is built and maintained by Liam, a developer and keyboard addict who has been deep in the mechanical keyboard hobby for years. He started the site because he could not get straight answers to simple spec questions: which boards actually ship under $100, which silent switches are genuinely quiet, and whether a spec sheet matches the real product. Every guide and research paper here draws on the same normalized dataset behind the finder, and every spec is checked before it ships. Off the keyboard, the same spec obsession goes into home office setups: desks, ergonomic chairs, and the small details that carry a desk through a long workday.

Where the data comes from

Specs are collected from manufacturer spec sheets and major retailer product pages, then normalized into one schema so every switch and keyboard is comparable line for line. When a maker does not publish a number, the field says n/a; we never fill gaps with guesses. The database currently covers 502 mechanical keyboards and 227 switches, plus a handful of scissor and membrane boards kept for comparison only, and grows continuously.

How the finder ranks

The keyboard finder applies your filters (use case, size, budget, connectivity, hot-swap, height) to every mechanical board in the database (scissor and membrane boards are listed for comparison only and excluded), then ranks what remains by a transparent fit score: a use-case match counts most, then budget headroom, hot-swap for tinkerers, and open firmware for programmers, with the cheaper board breaking ties. There is no weighting a brand can buy. If a board appears first, it is because it fits your answers, not because anyone paid for the spot.

How KeebScout makes money

KeebScout is reader-supported. Some outbound links to retailers are affiliate links, meaning KeebScout may earn a small commission when you buy through them, at no extra cost to you. Choosing to buy through those links is what keeps the finder and the databases free. Affiliate status never changes a spec, a ranking, or which products get listed, and sponsored placements in the finder or the databases are not for sale. There is no paywall, and no donation ask.

Community summaries

Some keyboard and switch pages include a "What the community says" section: an AI-generated digest of public Reddit discussions, refreshed weekly. We strictly paraphrase rather than republish, and every summary links back to the original threads so you can read them in full. These summaries are kept separate from the verified spec data above; they reflect community opinion, not our measurements, and may contain errors.

Spotted a wrong spec? We want it fixed. Email corrections@keebscout.com and the fix ships in the next site build. Every page lists only what we can verify.
